We caught up with owner and founder, Michelle Button, and asked her some questions about what makes her so successful.
?What inspired you to start this business?
? After struggling with my own challenges with infertility, loss, postpartum anxiety, and depression, I wanted to create a supportive and nurturing place for women and families to receive quality mental health treatment and support. I was really disappointed with the lack of support and education I experienced personally and wanted to find a way to give back and help families feel more prepared, empowered and supported during their family building journey.
?How long have you been in this business?
? 18 years
?What keeps you going every day?
? Knowing we are supporting women and families through major life transitions and creating a safe and supportive space to get help. I know how hard it is to reach out and ask for help, and we really think it is a privilege to be a part of the journey for so many women.
?List the services you provide
? Passages provides individual, couples, and group counseling services as well as community and professional education. Although our specialty is in Perinatal Mood & Anxiety Disorders (PMADs), we adult women from 18-80 and offer support for depression, anxiety, relationship issues, work-life balance, parenting, divorce, grief/loss, chronic illness, retirement/empty nesters, and other life stressors and transitions.
?Out of all of the services that you offer, what would you say is your specialty?
? Our Perinatal Program that focuses specifically on pregnancy, postpartum mood & anxiety disorders (PMADs), infertility and perinatal bereavement. There are very few clinicians trained in Perinatal Mental Health on Long Island and we pride ourselves on our expertise in this area and commitment to helping and supporting women and families during their family building journey.
?What is one thing you would like us to know about your practice?
? We are not a one size fits all practice! We pride ourselves on our speciality and what we do best! Our group practice specializes in working with adult women and couples and we really keep our clinical focus on that population, as we believe it is an area that requires special training and understanding, especially our perinatal services. Lots of therapists and group practices are generalists and offer services for the full spectrum of issues, ages and gender, which is wonderful, but just not our intention in our practice.
?What is the best compliment you received about your business?
? I think the compliment I hear most often is how much our clients feel genuinely cared for by our practice and staff. From the initial phone call to their experience in our offices and with their therapist, we really try to help women feel safe, supported and nurtured. Our hope is that is reflected in all we do at Passages.
?What is one thing you would like us to know about your business?
?Reaching out is the hardest part for most women! If you have been thinking about getting help, call or email us and we promise we will do our best to make the process easy and comfortable for you! If we are not a good fit for any reason, we also do our best to help with alternate referrals and resources when we can!
Thank you Michelle for sharing with us and giving us a peek into the incredible work you do for the community!
